Job Description Employer: Unitec New Zealand

Unitec is one of New Zealand¡¯s most innovative tertiary education providers, offering real world learning experience and qualifications for a wide range of exciting careers. Over 10,000 students (EFTS) from more than 80 countries choose to study at either the main Mt Albert campus, 10 minutes from downtown Auckland, or at the well established second campus in Waitakere City.

Unitec¡¯s School of Community Development is hosting the development of a web-based research clearing house as a first project in the development of a Tangata Whenua, Community and Voluntary Sector Research Centre.

The Centre is a collaborative initiative between a range of tertiary, tangata whenua, community and voluntary sector partners. The Centre aims to contribute to the strengthening of the sector through research and will operate within a Tiriti/Treaty relationships framework. The Clearing House will disseminate research findings and help link people with shared interests, needs and resources to support their pursuit of specific research agendas and initiatives (e.g. online discussion forums, e-journal)

We are seeking a person skilled in managing relationships to develop sustainable innovative new projects.

The ideal candidate will have:

Demostrated ability to engage with tangata whenua, community and voluntary sector and research networks and facilitate effectively working relationships across diverse sectors.

Excellent project management expertise including demonstrated ability to manage relationships, budgets, fundraising and set up sound systems for an ongoing operation.

Well developed skills and experience in research; risk management, information management and ICT to support this new project.

Ability to translate creative ideas into practical action

Ability to organise people, time, resources and processes to meet required standards of service and tight deadlines with minimal supervision.


The project management position is funded by the Department of Internal Affairs for 21 months from October 2006 to end of June 2008.
