Description |
The site based General Foreman (permanent management position) for a main contractor involves the management and supervision of new project works for a major commercial construction project ($50M plus). You will be working in as a key member of the company site management team, charged with supervision of labour teams and their productivity, input into the programme relating to your components of the job. Your attention to detail and common sense will add value to the company and its clients. The position reports to the Senior Site Manager and is off the tools.
A formal trade qualification is a requirement of the position, as is at least 10 years of New Zealand commercial construction experience with a contractor with at least 3 years in a supervisory role and preferably with at least one significant larger project under your belt. Basic computer skills, documentation and attention to detail are important aspects of this key position. The role is open due to expanding company workload and a recognition of the need for additional specialist skills, particularly large structural experience, ie office towers. This is a management position where you are able to move back and forward from the office to the hole in the ground and deal with both groups easily.
The company is a major player in the Wellington construction market and has a large forward workload of large commercial construction works for a wide range of clients. It is financially backed by a Iarge operator. Internally, it is well resourced at all levels and has a strong, loyal group of subcontractors and good relationships with most major consultants. The role is mainly site based, generally within Wellington City, dependent on the project. The project offices are usually well catered for and fairly spacious by construction industry standards. The company management has an approach of promotion within, as evidenced by most of the senior people, so this position could be a significant opportunity career wise.
The package mainly consists of a straight salary which is expected to fall in the $80,000 to $90,000 range dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. There are some additional minor benefits including healthcare. Full training of relevant company software and a full, professional induction will be provided for the successful applicant.
